BMW recommends the use of RON 95 super unleaded petrol. Unleaded 91 RON and higher with a maximum ethanol content of 10% (E10) may also be used. Output and fuel consumption
figures apply to RON98 fuel. All engines meet the EU5 emissions standard. Fuel consumption is determined in accordance with the ECE driving cycle (93/116/EU), which consists of
approximately one third urban traffic and two thirds extra-urban driving (based on the distance covered). CO2 emissions are measured in addition to fuel consumption. Optional equipment
(e.g. wider tyres) can have a significant impact on fuel consumption.

BMW KeyCoder Version 0.981 (March 2011)
1. Overview
1.1. Introduction
BMW KeyCoder software is the most powerful tool for tasks related with Car
Access System (CAS*
cars. The software can perform a wide range of tasks, and all of them can be done
via OBD-II socket in seconds without disconnecting CAS from the car.
Why BMW KeyCoder is the best? Here are some examples:
- Programming of key – now it’s as simple as 1-2-3! Select type of key, its
position and start the programming!
- Programming of key is going directly in the ignition lock! No need for
additional programmers and preparations of keys!
- Support of latest technologies from BMW:
1) EWS4 Secret Key (new 128-bit synchronization with engine control unit).
BMW documentation “says” that noone can read or write it, but we can do it
through OBD-II socket! Surprise!
2) SOPT (encryption of keys and synchronizations with engine control unit).
Now the keys can be programmed even for encrypted CAS! And even with
encrypted EWS4 Secret Key, and now it’s the first software that can do it!
- Many very useful functions and all of them can be done via OBD-II socket!
) which is installed in all modern BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce

the applicable warranties with respect to
defects in materials or workmanship. Field
experience has indicated significant differ-
ences in fuel quality – volatility, composi-
tion, additives, etc. – among gasolines
offered for sale in the United States and
Canada. The use of poor-quality fuels may
result in driveability, starting and stalling
problems, especially under certain environ-
mental conditions such as high ambient
temperature and high altitude.
Should you encounter driveability prob-
lems which you suspect could be related to
the fuel you are using, we recommend that
you respond by switching to a recognized
high-quality brand.
Failure to comply with these recommenda-
tions may result in unscheduled mainte-
nance.
Follow the relevant safety rules when you
are handling gasoline.
Maintenance and repair
Advanced technology, e.g. the use of
modern materials and high-perform-
ance electronics, requires specially
adapted maintenance and repair methods.
Therefore, only have corresponding work
on your BMW carried out by a BMW center
or a workshop that works according to
BMW repair procedures with correspond-
ingly trained personnel. If work is carried
out improperly there is a danger of conse-
quential damage and the related safety
<
risks.
<
BMW warrants these parts to be free from
defects in material and workmanship.
BMW will not accept any liability for dam-
age resulting from installation of parts and
accessories not approved by BMW.
BMW cannot test every product made by
other manufacturers to verify if it can be
used on a BMW safely and without risk to
either the vehicle, its operation, or its occu-
pants.
Genuine BMW Parts, BMW Accessories
and other products approved by BMW,
together with professional advice on using
these items, are available from all BMW
centers.
Installation and operation of non-BMW
approved accessories such as alarms,
radios, amplifiers, radar detectors, wheels,
suspension components, brake dust
shields, telephones – including operation of
any portable phone from within the vehicle
without using an externally mounted
antenna – or transceiver equipment, for
instance, CBs, walkie-talkie, ham radio or
similar accessories, may cause extensive
damage to the vehicle, compromise its
safety, interfere with the vehicle's electrical
system or affect the validity of the BMW

2000-2006 BMW E46 Coupe and Sedan Sirius Satellite Radio Installation Manual
Sirius Satellite Radio Installation for the ’00-‘06 E46 3 Series
Coupe and Sedan
Tools Required:
• Panel Removal Tool
• 8mm socket wrench (CD Changer Removal)
CRITICAL Installation Notes:
This is a VERY simple installation, as we are simply plugging in the factory CD changer wires into
the Sirius module, routing the included cable from the Sirius back to the CD changer (when
equipped), and plugging the antenna into the Sirius Module. That’s it.
Don’t forget to write down the Sirius ID number, located on the Sirius module. You’ll need it to have Sirius
activate the module.
Do NOT plug the 3 pin connector into the Sirius Module until all other connections have been made. This is
imperative.
The Process:
We’ll begin by disassembling the trunk first..
1. Begin by removing all items from the trunk of the vehicle. Make sure that all tail lights are
in working order. If not, now is a good time to replace them. Also remove the carpet that
covers the floor of the trunk, as it will reveal a couple of fasteners that will need removing.
2. Start by removing the taillight covers. Push inward on the clip, and the light will release
itself. Now depress the wiring clip attached to the light bulb housing to release the
housing, and move the housing safely away from your working space (Photo on next
page).

BMW Z4 Roadster Satellite Radio Installation Instructions Manual
Satellite Radio Installation Instructions for BMW Z4 Roadster
03+ with Analog DSP (E85)
Before you begin the installation process, it is IMPERATIVE that you read
and understand the following information. We also recommend
disconnecting your negative battery terminal.
• You will need the Satellite Radio ID number to activate the radio. This
number is always located on a decal somewhere on the satellite
radio module. Write this down before installation begins, as it can be
covered up by Velcro once you install the module.
Tools Required for Installation:
• Panel Removal Tool
• Torx T20 (Ashtray Assembly Removal)
• Wire Cutters/Crimpers
• Metric Allen Key Set
• Brain
Accessing Factory CD Changer Wiring – The wiring we’ll be working with should
be very easily located. However, we have encountered a few Z4’s with the wiring buried
deep within the center console which required complete removal of the factory center
console. If you do not find the wiring within a few minutes, you may want to have your
dealer access the CD changer wiring for you. There will likely be a cost associated with
this, and Bavarian Soundwerks will NOT be responsible for these costs.
1) The wires we’re looking for are located behind the carpeted panel on the rear wall of the
trunk, closest to the cabin. To remove the carpeted panel, remove the trunk floor mat first by
lifting it out of the vehicle. We’ll only be prying the carpeted panel up just enough to give us
access to the area where the CD Changer connections reside.
Once you’ve removed the floor panel, the battery will also be revealed. Go ahead and disconnect
your negative battery terminal.
2) Now, we’ll need to remove the plastic fasteners that secure the upper layer of carpeting along the
floor. There are two of them, one on either side of the carpeted panel.
3) Now, we can fold the carpeted panel along the rear wall back, and we’ll be looking for the
rectangular pass-through into the cabin. It’s about 6” up from the bottom of the floor, and directly
in the middle of the rear firewall. We will be looking for two wires, one 3 pin connector, and one
coaxial connection.
4) Both the 3 pin and Digital Coaxial connector will be found tucked into the rectangular
entrance into the cabin shown below. They can be tucked quite tightly in here, so you may
have to fish around a bit to release them. They may be found together or the coaxial cable may

1. Now, plug the 3 pin connector into the Sirius Module. Secure all wiring and enjoy
your Sirius.
Sirius Receiver Mounting
We’ve included a couple of Velcro strips for mounting the unit wherever you fancy. We’ll typically mount it
There isn’t a bad mounting location in the X5’s. There’s so much room back there that you basically just
need to secure the module by whatever means works best in your situation. You can always call us if you
have any questions!
Using the Sirius Radio:
To access your new Sirius Radio, you will simply press the mode button on your radio or Navigation screen.
Refer to the included owner’s manual for operation instructions. The Sirius will essentially operate identically
to the FM/AM radio that you’re already familiar with.
If you press the mode button and nothing happens, meaning Sirius is not displayed on your radio screen,
see below.
Please note that in some vehicles, especially 2003, 2004, and early 2005 models that it may be
necessary to enter the radio’s service mode to activate the Sirius. The radio is set default to Europe, and we
need to turn it to USA mode, as satellite radio currently only operates within the continental USA.
To do this, proceed as follows:

2002-2006 BMW X5 Bluetooth Installation Instructions Manual
BMW Bluetooth Kit Installation Instructions for
BMW X5 03/02-06 (E53)
What you MUST know before you begin:
• Please review and familiarize yourself completely with these instructions
before starting work on your vehicle!
• Note that the instructions that follow are written by BMW, not
Bavarian Soundwerks.
Therefore, some variations from these instructions exist in the installation
process. They are as follows:
1. Our kit my not include a Bluetooth ULF Module mounting bracket. We do not include this
part due to the large variation in existing bracketry among various vehicles. Additionally, mounting
the ULF module is faster and easier using the included zip ties / Velcro. This saves YOU time!
2. Your vehicle DOES NOT need programming at the dealership to work properly. Just
install the kit and you’re set!

BMW_Speakers Install BSW_Stage-1 E9 Sedan Logic7 Manual
1. Let’s get the Midbass and tweeter freed up before we do anything else. These are the shortest
wires on the panel, so once they’re disconnected we can have more room to work with.
It’s simple; just unplug the midrange and tweeter by pulling the connector straight out of the
speaker!
2. We’ll next disconnect the lock mechanism. The photos below are helpful, but the installation
video will show you exactly how the mechanism is disconnected. Simply lift the lock
mechanism out of the handle by lifting outward.
3. We can now disconnect the window switch and free the harness gong down to the light, thus
completely freeing the door panel. We can now take the panel over to our workspace where we’ll
install the midbasses and optional sound deadening material.
Before we upgrade the midbass, let’s tackle the tweeter portion of the installation.

1999-2005 BMW E46, BMW 3 Series Sedan Subwoofer System by BSW Installation Manual
With the harness removed, take a close look and note that there are two plugs inside of the main
housing:
The wire we’ll be looking for is in the GREY plug. It’s a small gauge White wire. The remote turn on
wire is in the grey connector, Pin #10. Note: There are often times two white wires in the amplifier
harness. It is imperative that the correct wire be identified in this step.
Making the connections between your factory wire and the remote turn-on
wire:
It is important to remember here that we are essentially “T’ing” into the factory wires. It is important
that the factory signal flow be allowed to continue back into the factory amplifier.
A Quality set of wire crimpers is required for the next two sections.
For a pictorial of the process outlined below, see photos on the following pages.
1. After stripping back approximately ¼’ of the insulation from the wires, exposing the copper wiring
itself, twist one side of the factory wire that you cut in half together with either the included blue
remote turn on wire or one of the LOC leads, of course depending on your connection.
2. Insert these two wires into one side of the butt connector, and crimp tightly.
3. Insert the remaining half of the white wire into the unused side of the butt connector and again
crimp down tightly.

Getting the Audio Signal to your New Amplifier
Again, it is important to remember here that we are essentially “T’ing” into the factory wires. It is
important that the factory signal flow be allowed to continue back into the factory amplifier.
This part of the installation is the most time consuming. Use the supplied blue butt connectors to make the
connections. Make the connections at least 6” away from the factory amplifier plugs. After making the below
connections, you can route the RCA Cables to the approximate amplifier location.
1. Carefully observe the factory amplifier harness. You will see a large bundle of wires going into the
harness. The harness contains several wires, but don’t be overwhelmed. We will be using only four
of them, and they are easy to locate. The wires will be twisted together, and each twisted pair
represents a speaker or input.
2. You’ll need to isolate the following four (4) wires. They will be twisted together in pairs, as they
enter the factory amplifier.
-Blue w/Black Stripe (+) twisted with Brown w/Orange Stripe(-)
-Yellow w/Black Stripe (+) twisted with Brown w/Orange Stripe (-)
3. Now, orient yourself with the Line Output Converter that you received with your order. There are
four individual wires coming out of the unit. If there are Brown wires on your LOC, disregard
them. They will not be used.

Front Speakers:
You will leave the factory midrange in its housing and will reuse it. Do not remove the midrange.
1. Remove the Midbass/Midrange Assembly by first removing the foam from around the speakers.
2. Unscrew the assembly and remove it as one piece. Clip the small wires going from the midbass
driver up through the speaker and into the midrange bridge. Pull these through the midbass driver.
We will be using these again.
3. Note the two sets of wires remaining in the enclosure. We will be feeding the wires that went into
the midrange bridge back through the enclosure via a small hole that will need to be drilled in the
top of enclosure.
The wires that we will be using for this procedure are twisted together inside of the enclosure. Pull
the wires up through the enclosure and make the following connections on the outside of the
enclosure.
• Blue/Yellow Stripe is Positive (+) Æ Black/white stripe wire on midrange bridge.
• Blue/Green Stripe is Negative (-) Æ Black wire on midrange bridge.
When installing the midbass driver, use the following wire colors to connect to the speaker:
• Red/Green Stripe is Positive (+)
• Brown/Red Stripe is Negative (-)
When installing the midbass driver, you’ll first make sure that you’ve sealed the enclosure with the supplied
gasket tape. Set the woofer down into the enclosure, and screw down two of the four mounting points on
opposing sides from one another.
Next, you’ll want to place the included spacers on opposing sides stacked three (3) high. This will allow
clearance for the bridge to sit safely above the midbass driver. The height of the spacers may be less if
you’re using Rainbow Audio drivers.
Here is the finished front Midbass driver installed with the midrange bridge.

Front Tweeters:
Instructions are located in primary install manual.
There is also a slight variation with the tweeter wire colors from the standard M5 systems…
Use the following wire colors for the tweeter connections:
• Yellow/Red Stripe is Positive (+)
• Solid Yellow is Negative (-)
Rear Speakers
Wire colors for the rear speakers are the same as they are for the front, less the tweeters of course…
• Keep in mind you do NOT have to remove the rear doors. There are no speakers in there. ☺
• We will remove the wires from the midrange bridge in the same manner outlined above.

Rear Midbass Prepartion
When mounting the rear midbass drivers, leave the screw hole closest to the plug on the enclosure empty.
We will attach the tweeter here once the rear deck is installed.
-You will also have to drill a small hole in the rear enclosure to run the wires up to the new tweeter. This will
be done similarly to the front. Note where the hole is being drilled below:

DICE iPod Integration Kit Installation Instructions for BMW 7
Series ’98-’01 (E38)
IF THE BELOW STEPS AND
SUBSEQUENT PROGRAMMING
ARE NOT PERFORMED EXACTLY
AS OUTLINED, YOUR DICE KIT
WILL NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY.
If you have any technical or operational questions
not related directly to the physical installation of
the Dice unit, please call Dice technical support
directly at 1.888.342.3999.
Before you begin the installation process, it is IMPERATIVE that you read
and understand the following information.
• The Dice module is a very complex piece of hardware that is
responsible for very complicated communications between your
iPod and your BMW. It will not just “work” once you plug it in. Much like
a computer, it requires patience and an understanding of the hardware
and its operation to use.
• Your iPod MUST be updated with the very latest firmware from
Apple. To get this software, you must have the latest version of iTunes
installed on your computer, connect your iPod, and update the software
through iTunes. Before you attempt to install your DICE kit, make SURE
that your iPod has the latest firmware installed or the DICE kit will exhibit
erratic operation.

• Your iPod must have a complete charge before you attempt to use it
for the first time with your DICE kit.
• The DICE kit requires a “boot up” period called initialization. NO
OPERATION during this period can be performed. You must wait until
both the vehicle and iPod have completed the initialization to use the
system.
• You must be PATIENT when operating the DICE iPod integration kit.
Because there is a great deal of communication occurring between your
car, DICE system, and iPod, operation is NOT instantaneous. With each
button press, you must wait a moment or two to allow the hardware to
communicate and function.
• The DICE system has a learning curve. If you do not read the included
operation manual, you will not be able to figure out how to use the system.
READ THE OPERATION INSTRUCTIONS FIRST!
• We recommend a “dry run” before you route the Dice cable to the front of
the car. Follow all wiring instructions below to ensure proper operation.

• Panel Removal Tool
• Philips Head Screwdriver
• Radio Removal Tools
• Metric socket set

The Process:
• Disconnect negative battery terminal before proceeding.
We’ll begin by disassembling the trunk first. From there, we’ll run the Dice cable to the front of the car, at
which point we will plug the cable into the Dice module. From the Dice module, we will route the cable that
connects the Dice module to your Ipod. Lastly, we will initialize the Dice system.
Begin by removing all items from the trunk of the vehicle. Make sure that all tail lights are in working order. If
not, now is a good time to replace them. Also remove the carpet that covers the floor of the trunk, as it will
reveal a couple of fasteners that will need removing.

2000-2006 BMW E46 Sedan DICE Installation Manual
DICE Installation for the E46 ’00-’06 Sedan
Important! Please Read the Following Regarding
the Integration of the Dice Module into your BMW.
IF THE BELOW STEPS AND SUBSEQUENT
PROGRAMMING ARE NOT PERFORMED
EXACTLY AS OUTLINED, YOUR DICE KIT
WILL NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY.
• If you experience the Dice Module not operating correctly upon
the initial installation, head to the trunk and unplug the 3 pin
connector for approximately 1 minute.
This will resolve 99% of all issues that may have arisen. Plug the
connector back in and reattempt the initialization process.
Before you begin the installation process, it is IMPERATIVE that you read
and understand the following information.
• The Dice module is a very complex piece of hardware that is responsible
for very complicated communications between your iPod and your BMW.
It will not just “work” once you plug it in. Much like a computer, it has to be
precisely programmed in order to communicate with existing components
in your BMW.
• Your iPod MUST be updated with the very latest firmware from Apple.
This software is available through the iTunes website. Before you attempt
to install your Dice Module, make SURE that your iPod has the latest
firmware installed.
• Also, it is IMPERATIVE that your iPod has a complete charge before you
attempt to use it for the first time with your Dice module. The Process: Disconnect your Negative Battery Terminal First!
1. Begin by removing all items from the trunk of the vehicle. Make sure that all tail lights are
in working order. If not, now is a good time to replace them. Also remove the carpet that
covers the floor of the trunk, as it will reveal several fasteners that will need removing.
2. Start by removing the taillight covers. Turn the knob on each taillight counter clock-wise
until the cover becomes loose (Figure 1).
Figure 1
3. Now, look to the floor of the trunk. You will see that the two plastic casings on either side
of the trunk are secured by plastic screws on the passenger side and fasteners on the
drivers’ side (Figures 2 & 3). Remove the fasteners using you panel removal tool as

head screwdriver.

4. Remove these panels and place them aside. Keep all of the fasteners here so as not to
lose them.
5. Now, look to the carpeted drivers’ side of the trunk, and you will see two fasteners
securing the side panel (Figure 4). Remove these using your panel removal tool.

BMW 3 Series / M3 Coupe, Sedan Bluetooth Kit Installation Instructions Manual
BMW Bluetooth Kit Installation Instructions for
BMW 3 Series / M3 Coupe, Sedan, Convertible
03/02-MY06 (E46)
What you MUST know before you begin:
• Please review and familiarize yourself completely with these instructions
before starting work on your vehicle!
• Note that the instructions that follow are written by BMW, not
Bavarian Soundwerks.
Therefore, some variations from these instructions exist in the installation
process. They are as follows:
1. Our kit does not include a Bluetooth ULF Module mounting bracket. We do not include this
part due to the large variation in existing bracketry among various vehicles. Additionally, mounting
the ULF module is faster and easier using the included zip ties / Velcro. This saves YOU time!
2. Our kit does not include an Original BMW Pairing Button. As a result, you will not be
modifying your center console to install the pairing button. Why? First, BMW is out of stock
indefinitely on these pairing buttons. Second, since the pairing button is used so infrequently, it
makes MORE sense to avoid modification of the vehicle and simply tuck it away under the e-brake
boot, easily accessible as needed.
3. Your vehicle DOES NOT need programming at the dealership to work properly. Just
install the kit and you’re set!
4. If you have a Convertible, no SES jumper plug installation is required and this step can be
skipped entirely.
• The Bluetooth Antenna FAKRA connector can be very difficult to find in the
center console area and is sometimes buried WAY below the carpet. We
promise it’s there – KEEP LOOKING!

• Insure that your bass and treble settings are set to their default middle positions before
installing your new speaker upgrade. Once you’ve installed your Stage 1, you can reset the
bass and treble settings to taste. Keep in mind that we generally recommend keeping them both
very close to center as large adjustments introduce distortion into the audio signal and will lower
performance of your system.
• Perform the installation one door at a time. Since there are many small parts that you’ll remove
when completing the project, limiting the work you’re doing to one door will prevent you from
interchangeable.

BMW E36 & E46 3 Series BMW E39 5 Series INSTALLATION & OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS Manual PDF
This SCHROTH asm harnessbelt is only suitable for adults on
front outboard seating positions.
SCHROTH asm harnessbelts are not intended or suited for
use by children under 12 years of age, or persons who weigh
less than 88 lbs (40 kg) or those who are less than 4'11" tall
(1.50 meters), regardless of age. Such persons will not be
adequately protected by the harness system and may receive
more severe injury than would otherwise be expected.
SCHROTH U.S. model harnessbelts have been tested in
accordance with performance parameters of Federal Motor
Vehicle Safety Standard 209 with the exception of
Paragraph S 4.6 (full scale impact testing as described in
FMVSS 208). FMVSS 209 deals with lap and three point
restraints and does not expressly refer to harness belts.
SCHROTH has nevertheless applied the performance criteria
specified in FMVSS 209 to the system to the extent applicable.
These belts, when properly installed and used according to
applicable instructions can mitigate injury. The ability of any
restraint system to mitigate or prevent injury is directly related
to the type and severity of the accident. SCHROTH asm
harnessbelts have been tested in dynamic sled tests utilizing a
75 kg (165 lbs) Hybrid II anthropometric dummy to simulate
head-on collisions at 50 km/h (31 mph). They also have been
dynamically tested utilizing a 75 kg mass dummy in
accordance with European Safety Standard ECE-R 16.04.
• Always keep this manual in the vehicle so that others can
thoroughly familiarize themselves with the proper use of
the system.
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
1 General Instructions
Always leave original equipment seat belts in place and
available for use.
We strongly recommend that you leave in place all BMW
factory provided 3-point restraint systems originally supplied for
the front and rear seating positions of your vehicle when you
install the SCHROTH asm harnessbelt. Removal of original
equipment restraint systems may also violate applicable State
or Federal law.
To carry rear seat passengers, you must use your standard 3-
point factory provided front seat belts. To use the factory
installed seat belts after a SCHROTH BMW Rallye 4 belt has
been installed you must first release (un-clip) all four points of
the SCHROTH belt and remove it.
Leaving original equipment restraint systems in place and fully
functional will enable you to choose either the SCHROTH
Rallye 4 OR the vehicle’s standard seat belts when it is
necessary to transport passengers in any of the rear seats or
when either harness belt is not suited for use by the driver or
front seat passenger.

BMW 318i SE 4-door saloon Manual
HE CURRENT 3-SERIES, FIRST
T
seen in 1998, has undergone further
development in the last few months,
largely under the skin. It will take a real
aficionado to spot the subtle exterior styling
tweaks, but under the bonnet of the 318i and
320D (diesel), things are really different.
In fact, the nomenclature of the various
models can no longer be relied on to tell
the size of the engine – the 318i is, in fact,
a two-litre, for example. Its power is up by
21 per cent, but that’s almost by the way.
This engine uses no throttle plate;
instead, its deep (or shallow) breathing is
determined by valve timing (which isn’t
new), but also by the degree of
valve-opening (which is). So, a computer
interprets the message from the driver’s
right foot and instructs an electric motor
(and thus the inlet camshaft) to meet the
need of the moment.
Result: no pumping losses, better fuel
mixing and improved mpg. This makes the
318i a significantly cheaper tax
proposition; CO2 emissions are well below
those of petrol rivals, while pain at the
pumps is less severe, too.
But what about the rest of the car? BMW
has stiffened the suspension; obviously,
the softer settings that prevailed on the
ordinary four-cylinder cars since 1998
haven’t pleased younger, press-on drivers.
Now, it’s the turn of those who like a more
relaxing time to decide whether the model
has gone too far the other way. Driving a
Rover 75 after the 318i makes the BMW
feel very unsettled on indifferent secondary
